It has been since August that I published an article for my readers as I took some time to help my family navigate the path for my Mother’s Hospice care. In October, we moved her to my middle sisters home in the Hudson Valley as there was more help, extended family and assistance available in a more populated area. Mom and I talk on the phone and I visit as often as I can.
I found a basket full of old black and white photos at her house that had no names written on them to identify who they were. Being the oldest, I knew some of those people, but I knew that my Mother would know who they all were. I brought them during my last visit and we went through and identified a lot of people in those pictures. I left them there so other family members could sit with her and do the same. She really enjoyed the experience, and so did I, because I received more than just names, but her memories of the experiences those pictures generated.
I haven’t been completely absent from writing. I do have several articles in the making that I started as ideas came to my mind. There are others that I have written many years ago that are being updated as I have gained new knowledge through time and experience. The “Every Horse has a Story” series has a few in the waiting that I look forward to sharing.
Also, during my Substack hiatus, I had the opportunity to learn of an Energy Medicine Modality known as The Emotion Code. My Naturopathic Doctor, and friend Joy Heckman started the course and used The Emotion Code with our dog, Marty. Here is her story in a nutshell. Marty was born at a shelter and was adopted by an elderly man when she was 10 months old. (He named her Martha, but she doesn’t look like or act like a “Martha.”) He loved her, but became ill and had to move far away from the farm to be cared for by his family. The neighbors took care of the animals there. One of my clients, who lived down the road from his farm, knew we had lost our dog earlier that year and asked if we might be interested in taking her. To make a long story short, we took her home. She was 3 years old. We had a lot of training to do with her. She had a strong prey drive and we have cats and chickens. It took time and patience to navigate all that, and no one would ever guess seeing her now. But, there seemed to be one thing that we felt was missing. The best way I can explain it is that “ET” moment from the movie “ET”, where a finger from two different individuals touch at the tips to create a deep and powerful connection. Two hours after that Emotion Code session, for the first time, Marty wanted to come upstairs to our bedroom and sleep in our room. So, I brought her bed upstairs and she has done this every night ever since. Not only that, but she can be walked around our property without a leash for the first time. She is now 7 years old.
Marty went from wanting to kill the cats to accepting them as part of the family… with our patience, kindness and support. The Emotion Code brought it all to another level of connectedness.
I was drawn to look further into the Emotion Code because of Marty’s transformation, and found that Dr. Bradley Nelson, who created it, was going to be doing a 3 day workshop at the Omega Institute in Rhinebeck, NY, not far from where I live. I attended the Workshop and had the opportunity to personally meet him. It was an amazing experience, and all I could think of was how much this will help me in my work with horses. Dr. Bradley had done The Emotion Code with horses and shared with me a couple of his experiences. So, I enrolled in the Certification Program as soon as I returned from the Workshop.
I am currently two thirds of the way into the certification program, and seeing some amazing results with people, horses, dogs and cats. Even a pair of Eagles, but that’s another story. I am currently doing The Emotion Code mostly with horses and will be sharing some of the amazing results we have been seeing. From a holistic hoof care perspective, trapped emotions in the body contribute to “dis-ease” in the entire individual.
