The "Weather" can be more than your daily forecast
Cycles, Circles, Climate... and the bigger picture
I remember when I began to be interested in the weather. I often went fishing with my Father in the reservoirs, lakes and streams in Putnam and Westchester counties of NY. He had a subscription to the Conservationist magazine and on one of the pages near the back there was a “prediction” for the month based on past data, as well as when the best times to go fishing were according to the moon phases. Advanced knowledge of the weather also became important when riding season came. There was a phone number I could call to find out the forecast for 3 days. It was WE6-1212. I remember it well as I used it often with the only “dial” phone on the kitchen wall for a family of five.
After completing 8th grade in Middle School, I started Senior High closer to home. I could walk to school, and back, through trails and fields every day. They built a Junior High near the High School with a Planetarium. We all wanted a pool, but over time, I fell in love with the Planetarium. The first time I went there was to see an introduction on how we would use the Planetariums domed sky in our studies. Mr. Sandy, who was in charge of the program, made a captivating presentation of a 24 hour day and night cycle, complete with music. The grand finale at sunrise was the Beatles song, “Here Comes the Sun”. I learned many star constellations and was excited to find them in the real night sky. I remain a star gazer all these years later.
When my son was young, my husband brought home a Telescope and star maps. We watched the night sky together nearly every clear night. Observed the Moon, the Hale Bop Comet as well as the yearly Perseid Meteor Shower many times. There were times we were wrapped in blankets on lawn chairs with hot cocoa under the stars.
Living in a rural area gave us the opportunity of having horses, dogs, cats, chickens, goats and pot bellied pigs. We also loved hiking, caving, camping, and gardening. In the winter, building snow forts, cross country skiing, ice skating and sleigh riding. I road my horses in the winter too! I loved the quietness of the snow and road bareback to stay warm. We enjoyed being outside more often than not.
Looking back again to High School, my 12th grade Composition teacher, Mrs. Waters, called me the Nature Gal. Obviously because of the topics I chose to write about. I was introduced to descriptive writing in her class that opened up a new world for me, my pen and paper. I still have the blue covered spiral note book from that class too! She told me she saved my stories for last with her cup of tea. I remain grateful for her guidance and the potential she saw in me. She laid the foundation for my writing, stories, songs, articles for magazines, and now here on Substack.
More recently we became interested on a deeper level with Space Weather and it’s connection to our beautiful Mother Earth that sustains our life here. Sometimes it is mind-challenging to see ourselves as tiny specks on a planet that itself is a tiny speck next to our Sun and the other planets in the solar system. Space Weather News is part of our morning watch with the regular weather forecast. We humans still have much to learn up close and far away. We are part of it, as well as connected to it.
While studying for my Body Code Certification and doing sessions with people, I am sometimes guided to the Diurnal Cycle to find an imbalance in the body. The Diurnal Cycle refers to any recurring pattern that happens every 24 hours. Which includes the flow of the 12 main meridians throughout a 24 hour day, organs rebooting at their peak 2 hour times and the cycles beginning with the lungs and ending with the liver. Another place we get lead to is the Circadian Rhythm which is a physiological, recurring pattern that happens every 24 hours as well. It is mostly controlled by the hypothalamus gland in the brain, influenced by sunlight and temperature and connected to the time zone you live in. I can vividly recall the times I went to the west coast on a plane for a few days and returned east only to feel very tired and sometimes “sick” for a few days. My Circadian and Diurnal Cycle rhythms were disrupted.
Every morning when I get our local forecast to prepare for my day, I also look at the bigger picture of the USA with Max Velocity as well as Space Weather News. Just as we are part of Mother Earth, She is part of a galaxy in yet an even bigger picture of endless space, stars and planets. A perspective like that can change the way we react, respond or just accept the state of “now” during our Earth journey. Zooming out can add a balancing perspective.
What I see, zooming in, is that we have such busy lives, and don’t have to really go anywhere to make it happen. The connective devices that we possess have become an artificial appendage in our pockets that have caused a different type of “Attention Deficit Disorder”. One driven by a buzz, a tone or a beep that instantly draws us away from what we are doing, who we are with or where we were going. Imagine what our horses receive sensing these energy and attention shifts? “Confusion” comes to mind. It’s not easy to build or sustain a relationship with endless and preventable distractions. We have forgotten how to be truly present. I have a sign on the door inside the porch that leads to my kitchen: No cell phones in the house. Please leave it in your vehicle. We want to enjoy our visit with YOU!! I was lead to hang it there when a friend came to visit who I hadn’t seen in a long time. Sitting across the table from me, while we were happily conversing, she would hear a buzz, a tone or a beep every few moments and immediately be drawn to it and continuously breaking the connection of a meaningful interaction between us. Your phone contains your personal community. Some known only in that space. Without a sense of control, they become a scene of distractions and sometimes a waste of time that was actually arranged to enjoy real live company. Family pictures and recording special events are a different story and are not frowned upon here. Think about this for a bit. If you are old enough you can recall the times when this scene was impossible. Like the dial phone on the kitchen wall I mentioned earlier.
Weather can mean climate. Climate can mean weather, but also a sense of space or energy. Like the “climate” in a room when you enter it. You feel it. Your body energetically tells you weather it’s a good or safe place to be, or that perhaps you should leave. When you are alone, with family, friends, pets, nature, your horse… YOU have the ability, and the choice, to create the energetic climate you wish to be in, invite others to share in, or just walk into a silent place in nature that speaks volumes without saying a word.
